Celebrity Drug and Alcohol Abuse Stories

Why We Love Celebrity Drugs and Alcohol Stories

Drug and Alcohol Abuse of Celebrities

Ever wonder why we love celebrity scandals about drug and alcohol abuse?

There’s something about seeing our favorite star or famous athlete succumb to substance abuse that’s a little different… and somewhat more interesting… than the run of the mill scandal.

Wonder why?

It’s because everyone likes to see the high and mighty fall off their throne because they couldn’t handle the day-to-day pressures of living a life style that most of us can onlyDrug and Alcohol Abuse Lindsay Lohan dream about and turned to drug and alcohol abuse to escape.

Imagine having pretty much everything you could possible want that fame and money could buy and throwing it all away to escape the very reality that you and I would die for.

How could they!

Plus the drug and alcohol abuse of the famous… or even almost famous… celebrities not only provides us with some brief amusement and distraction of our everyday life… but it also makes us feel a little better about ourselves.

It’s the same feeling you have when you slow down to look at the aftermath of a traffic accident.  As you turn to look at the carnage you think to yourself… “Glad that’s not me.”

We love to put these people on a pedestal.

Drug and Alcohol Abuse Nik NolteBut once their drug or alcohol abuse gets the better of them, we get just as much satisfaction from taking them off that pedestal because their actions have proved that are no better than us.

Celebrities… whether they have a drug or alcohol abuse problem or not… are human beings disposed to the failings that we all suffer.

But… because every aspect of their lives is over glamorized… we are forced to take notice.

And we really take notice when they throw all the love and adulation they have built up out the window for a few moments of escapism with drugs or alcohol.

It is in these moments when they appear human and vulnerable that bring us the most pleasure.

It’s as if they are now mere mortals like us as they hurl down to earth mired in their attest drug or alcohol stupor.

Any activity that has put these celebrated folks on the wrong side of the law will usually bring a sly smile to our faces.Drug and Alcohol Abuse in Hollywood

We love those embarrassing photos of drug and alcohol abuse that exposes them as just an average Joe… as we see the actual person behind their celebrity.

If you want to see your favorite celebrity as a real person, just check out their mug shot after they have been arrested for drug and alcohol abuse.

How does that photo really make you feel?

Chances are your find it amusing and entertaining to watch their fall from grace… but there is more to it than just that.

When they fall to earth because of their drug or alcohol fueled antics, they have also empowered us with the ability to decide their fate within our own psyche.

Do we forgive them for their indiscretions… or cast them aside to wallow in their drug and alcohol abuse… that’s very powerful stuff for the average person.

We get that drug and alcohol abuse is no laughing matter and should never be taken lightly.  Lets be clear about the distinction between a drug or alcohol overdose that has deadly consequences and a night of partying that leads to an embarrassing scandal.

Drug and Alcohol Abuse Robert DowneyBut there comes a point when we the public gets to stand in judgment of those celebrities who seemingly have it all… and chose to lived their life in a reckless manner because of drug and alcohol abuse.

As you follow the stories on this site about celebrity drug and alcohol abuse scandal… take advantage of the feeling of empowerment their latest plight brings you.

The gavel of public opinion is now in your hand.  Will it be thumbs up… or thumbs down?

That’s something you get to decide.

First Published: January 24, 2014 10:08 AM EST Credit: Getty Images

NEW YORK, N.Y. — Elizabeth Vargas attends the ‘Les Miserables’ New York premiere at Ziegfeld Theatre on December 10, 2012 in New York CityCaption Elizabeth Vargas attends the ‘Les Miserables’ New York premiere at Ziegfeld Theatre on December 10, 2012 in New York CityABC News reporter Elizabeth Vargas is publicly acknowledging that she’s an alcoholic, and says it took her years to admit it.

In an interview aired Friday on “Good Morning America,” Vargas said hiding it from others left her “exhausted.” Her go-to drink was wine which, increasingly during her adulthood, she used to manage her anxiety and stress. She said she had suffered panic attacks since she was a child.

Last fall, Vargas spent several weeks in a treatment facility and is now in Alcoholics Anonymous. She told “GMA” co-anchor George Stephanopoulos she’s “proud” of confronting her problem.

She said she’s ready to resume her duties Friday as co-anchor of “20/20.”

Vargas has worked in network news since 1993, first with NBC and then ABC, which she joined in 1996.

Live on January 8, 2014 in Los AngelesZac Efron is speaking out about his life following a rehab stint last year.

“I’m so happy. I feel like I’m in a great place and I’m glad that I’m really here to share this moment with everybody and be present for all of it,” the 26-year-old told People on Tuesday at the “That Awkward Moment” press conference in New York City.

The past year has helped the former Disney star figure out what he wants moving forward.

“It was an interesting year. I learned so many things. So much,” he continued. “The best part of it was being able to reflect upon that experience and realize how much I have learned about myself and the kind of man I want to be.”

Zac was excited to be with his co-stars and friends, Michael B. Jordan and Miles Teller.

“This movie, these guys and coming back to it and to New York – just being here in this moment, it just kind of exemplifies it,” the actor continued. “I couldn’t be happier. I’m in a great place.”
